Overview

Development Training:
Our development training program is for soccer players aged 3 to 9 years of age, and is focussed on individual skill development. Our training sessions are player-centered programs that integrate small sided games (3v3, 4v4 & 8v8) to promote more touches on the ball, encourage individual skill, confidence and off-the-ball understanding. We teach our beginner soccer players the individual skills and technique necessary for them to play and enjoy the beautiful game to its fullest without the added pressure of winning at all costs. Our coaches develop their teams under the age of 10 in ways that promote player development, rather than simply to win games/league & cups. Unlike most other clubs in the city, there are no traditional “Game Days”. Training programs are co-ed, and are broken-up by age groups, as follows.

Elite Training:
Participants in our Elite Technical Training  and Goalkeeping Clinic programs range from players in competitive teams under the Royal York FC umbrella, to players from other clubs around the city. Any player is welcome, regardless of their current community club affiliation. We believe that in order to continue to grow and develop, quality soccer training needs to be made available to any and all who want it; raising the level of the competition simply raises the level of the game overall.
Competitive Team Program:
Our Competitive Team Program consists of a group of our teams who thrive in a challenging and supportive environment through which to experience league play at various competitive levels. Each team, players and coaching staff alike, has the full support of our technical staff. We provide practice facilities (minimum 2 to 3 times per week), access to our Technical Training program, and all administrative support.
As with any sport, playing soccer can carry with it the risk of injury. Young players are especially vulnerable to ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) damage during soccer training. Certified Athletic Therapist Helen Holubec has developed a preventative program for the Royal York FC Competitive Program to develop strength, flexibility and coordination in our young players, and help to ensure that they enjoy long, healthy playing careers.

Recreational Play:
Recreational league play is important to Royal York FC’s soccer philosophy, as it pushes soccer inclusion further into the community, and ensures that participation does not only grow at the highest levels. Our main aim with this program is to further foster inclusion, and to continue to develop the city’s love for the game.
